Objectives:

  • To introduce the students to the techniques of textual and critical analysis and the main concepts of literature, cinema, culture and linguistics in English.
  • To carry out an in-depth study of the central issues in the fields of literature, cinema, and culture in English, with special emphasis on the modern and contemporary periods, and their impact on western society and its underlying ideologies.
  • To offer the students the English-language tools required to enable them to carry out a professional and academic activity.
  • To initiate the students as researchers through the in-depth analysis of the above-mentioned subjects and the writing of a Master’s thesis.
  •  The first three objectives will be reached by means of regular courses. Once the courses and the Master’s thesis have been completed, the students will have acquired a mixed academic-and-research training which will allow them to opt either for continuing their career as researchers, leading to the title of Doctor in English Studies (“PhD. in English Studies”), or enter into the professional market.
